Privacy Policy

The Slide Roaster ("we", "us", "the add-in") is a Microsoft PowerPoint add-in that provides AI-generated feedback on your slides. This policy explains what information the add-in processes, how it is used, and who it is shared with. By using the add-in, you agree to the practices described below.

Summary

Information we process

Slide content you submit. When you ask the add-in to analyse a slide, it sends the content of that slide to our server: the text on the slide, and structural details such as shape positions, sizes, font names, font sizes, and bold or italic settings. It also sends limited context about the file, namely the presentation title, the total number of slides, and the position of the current slide. Images themselves are not sent, only the fact that a picture is present and where it sits on the slide.

Technical information. Our server records basic request information, such as the date and time, the request method, and the path requested (for example, the analysis endpoint). Our hosting provider records similar information, which can include your internet protocol (IP) address. We also use your IP address in memory to apply rate limits that protect the service from abuse and excessive cost. These rate-limit counters are held only temporarily and are cleared when the service restarts.

The add-in acts only when you trigger it. It does not read, monitor, or transmit your presentation in the background, and it does not track your activity within PowerPoint.

How we use this information

Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on your request for the service and on our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and available.

What we do not do

Usage analytics

We do not currently use third-party product analytics or tracking tools in the add-in. The only usage information available to us is the technical information described above. If we introduce usage analytics in future, we will update this policy beforehand, and any such analytics will record aggregate, non-identifying information only, never your slide content, the generated feedback, your name, or your email address.

Service providers

Data retention

Slide content and generated feedback are not retained by us beyond the lifetime of the request that processes them. Technical logs, which do not contain slide content or feedback, are retained by our hosting provider for a limited period under its standard log retention practices, and are used only for security and operational purposes.

Security

Traffic between the add-in and our server is encrypted in transit using HTTPS, as is traffic between our server and our AI provider. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the information we handle, including holding slide content only in memory for the duration of a request.

Your choices

Because the add-in sends data only when you ask for an analysis, you control what is processed by choosing which slides to submit. You can stop all processing at any time by not using the feature or by removing the add-in from PowerPoint. Please submit only slides that you are permitted to share with a third-party AI service, and avoid submitting confidential or personal information you would not want processed externally.

International users and your rights

Your request may be processed on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. Under laws such as the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation, you have rights over your personal data, including rights of access, correction, and erasure. Because we do not operate user accounts and do not store slide content, the only personal data we are likely to hold is the limited technical log information described above. To make a request, or to ask how we handle your data, please contact us using the details below.

Children

The add-in is intended for professional use and is not directed at children under 13, or under the minimum age of consent in your jurisdiction.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be published on this page, and the "last updated" date above will be revised accordingly.
